Once you have someone allied with you in the space stage of Spore how do you make them come with you?

I already have them alliedOnce you have someone allied with you in the space stage of Spore how do you make them come with you?
Click on the group box on the right side of the screen and have them join there... it should say "join my tribe" or something like that.
