For example, becoming a scientist if you are an economic nation in civilization stage. there are multiple trait combinations such as 2 green 1 blue and 2 red. for a full list of each combination check out a walkthrough at gamefaqs.com under the spore section.
the space age is the final stage where the game is open ended. the gameplay revolves around piloting a space ship to various planets and interacting with their governments like war and trading and some side missions that help the planet by abducting/killing aliens or stopping climate change.
